Description
Handmade Calder Pendant made of sterling silver and lacquer Japanese. I love the Calder work and this pendant is inspired by a mobile, a type of moving sculpture made with delicately balanced or suspended shapes that move in response to touch or air currents. The technique used in this modern and unique piece is Cashew Japanese Lacquer.
The Calder Pendant has many layers of lacquer that have been carved and polished to a high sheen. Over metal base is formed in the desired shape, and then multiple layers of colored lacquer are applied. Because of the properties of the sap, the lacquer hardens rather then dries. Creating a piece of Japanese lacquer is a very labor intensive process, but all the time and hard work results in a wonderful and truly unique piece of jewelry.
